weather coverage...and we're tracking how kentucky is dealing with record snowfall. we'll first see how crews are dealing with the snow here

in lexington. and not even snow...can stop first responders... we'll hear from one man who's been working long hours to help others stranded.

good morning. i'm bill bryant. and i'm rebecca smith. it's . today is once again a first alert severe weather day...

and while the snow may have moved out of the area...bitterly cold temperatures are moving in. let's go next to meteorologist micah harris with

a look at what to expect. with record breaking snowfall yesterday...snowy roads kept first responders busy... let's go now to wkyt's hillary

thornton who is live in lexington with a look at conditions out there...good morning. you can certainly tell snow plows were able to make some

headway on this snow during the overnight hours the main roads with less drivers out however that certainly does not mean they are clear and are still in pretty rough shapesince sunday at

midnight on sunday through 330 this morning lexington police have responded to 44 non injury accidents, 5 injury and 460 motorist assists. with this bitterly cold temperatures these

roads are not going to thaw out anytime soon, the cold is also packing local homeless shelters. all organizations we have spoken to are at capacity. the hope center filled up yesterday however

they were not turning people away instead they sent them to a local church and that church is now also at capacity. volunteers hope that means there is no one left out here in this

cold. live we are planning to speak with lexington fire department later this morning to see if they have been called out for any cold weather related

medical emergencies. and wkyt's mike linden continues our team coverage...he's driving around lexington right now with a look at how the roads are

shaping up...mike where are you right now? many businesses and schools are still shut down this morning... after madison county got about

a foot of snow during the storm... roads were so bad during the storm that madison county sheriffs deputies and berea police were using humvees to help

healthcare workers get to their jobs... but deputies say they think e-k-u closing...and people staying home from work... kept them from

dealing with too many wrecks. there's cars all over off the road but i was telling my husband on our drive down how impressed i was with the first responders because you would see

a car to off and the police were there immediately. e-k-u is closed again today...which officials are hoping will keep people off the roads.

and just north of us in georgetown...tempe ratures are dropping this morning and crews are still working to clear snow.

we go next to wkyt's mark barber with a look at the roads in georgetown today...good morning mark! despite tough driving conditions

for all drivers it didn't stop paramedics in lincoln county... from getting to patients. while emergency responders tell others not to go

on the roads during storms... it's their job to get out on the roads...to save others. one worker in stanford...says they have to just

do their best. yeah no matter what the call, they call 911, you gotta go. do your best to get there. when your best is not good enough, we still have to get there somehow.

thankfully though...their job got a little easier when the sheriff's department offered up a hummer...for easier travel. coming up at

5:30...we'll have another look at the storm's effects in southern kentucky... we'll have a live report from wkyt's sean moody...who's in corbin this

basketball: " more than any team i've coached, the strength is in the pack. and i said it doesn't mean we don't have some gressive tough wolves that will come after you, but by

themselves they're not the same. in the pack we have a little swag about us, we're a little more aggressive, we're really about each other. ys aren't afraid to ep out and risk. this team more than

hers." e wildcats practiced day atmpson- boling arena in oxville... preparing to face a tennesse team that has lost five of its last seven... coach donnie tyndall is

in his first season at tennessee and he says several things all have to go right for any team if they want to at the wildcats. donnie nlut ach "the teams that have played them

tough havfirst and remost made perimeter jumpers. at ast kept the bounding numbers ose in some cases even and then the third thing you have to limit ur turnovers. if you

give up second shots which means you're going tlehe rebounding battle. if you don't shoot it well where they're able to play in transition or you turn it over where they can play in

transition, you have no chance." the cats try to make it 26 in a row without a loss tomorrow night in knoxville when they square off against the vols... tip off is set for 7 p.m. on espn

kentucky remains a unanimous number one for the third straight week in the latest a-p poll.. the top eight teams remain the same from last week... utah moves into the top 10 for the second

louisville regional airport...and cincinnati international... have many delays and cancellations as well. so be sure to check your flight before

you head out. in georgetown this morning...roads are looking better but still, not many people are out and about this many drivers in clark county tell

us... they've had a hard time 'not' getting stuck.. on snow covered folks in winchester...told us that the snow...doesn't discriminate.

vehicles of all kinds...were getting stuck ... and having trouble getting out of parking lots. but drivers pitched in to help each

other out. "we just helped a guy get out. i don't know how long he was stuck here, but i was here helping him for a good 10, 15 minutes, just to get out of the parking lot. it's pretty messy,

pretty nasty looking here." others told us that their normal commutes...took up to half an hour longer than usual. roads are so bad...kentucky state

police troopers are reminding people to be careful if they have to travel... troopers say you shouldn't be on the roads unless it's absolutely

necessary. and if you are on the road...to make sure you give yourself enough time to get to your next destination. and to allow more room between

vehicles on the road. they also say to make sure you have a charged cellphone and a full tank of gas before you get on the road.

if you spot a stranded motorist...you can call 9-1-1 or k-s- p...at the number on your screen. kentucky this morning...snow totals may not

have gotten as high as they did in other parts of but it still caused some problems for drivers. wkyt's sean moody is live in corbin with the latest on

how the snowstorm has affected the area...sean good here in corbin, the snow totals weren't as high because it switched over to sleet for a while, but there

are still several inches of snow on the ground. by the time the snow was moving out, things were about as quiet out here as they are now. kentucky state police said they hadn't

worked any major accidents in the area since yesterday. they said most accidents were just fender benders or people sliding off the road. they asked people to stay off the roads

unless they had to be out and it seems most people did that. here in corbin, the storm shut down a lot of businesses. last night there weren't many restaurants open. there was a hardee's that

was absolutely packed. it was the only place around still serving food. plows stayed busy throughout the day clearing roads, but as soon as they went through, the snow and sleet covered them

right back up. the roads supervisor said they planned to be out until midnight last night. of course, governor beshear announced that state of emergency last night.

he asked people to avoid travel. i'm not far from i75 and i don't hear many vehicles. it sounds like people are staying put. live in corbin, sean moody even though the snow didn't start

falling on i-75 in london until a couple hours after the road had received a thick coat in lexington... drivers and road crews there quickly discovered

how severe this winter storm was. wymt's tanner hesterberg has been camped out by i-75 in laurel county for the past 24 hours and joins us now....

tanner? roads look better than last night . snowfall update . road crews were busy through the night salt trucks and plows spent monday night and tuesday morning
